This is an oil painting of Albert Pike that is inside the Temple of the 33rd. I took this picture when I toured it. It is typical Pike. He is surrounded by books. He loved to collect books. At the end of the Civil War when he was running away from Yankees, he saved his books even though he lost about all else. He managed to hide off in a secluded cabin at Greasy Cove with his books. It was there after the war that he wrote his most famous book MORALS AND DOGMA. The title sounds hideous but don't be fooled. The content is most fascinating. Contrary to the title, it is not dogmatic, and the morals do not resemble the ramblings of so-called moralists today. |
